I am a resilience writing researcher. That means I study writing as a cognitive, rhetorical, and developmental practice that fosters agency and transformation—a practice anyone who writes engages in, whether or not they’re aware of it.
I’m an assistant teaching professor of writing studies in the Department of Global Arts, Media and Writing Studies at the University of California, Merced.
I’ve designed and taught courses in composition, rhetoric, writing pedagogy, and English for multilingual writers, and have held leadership positions in first-year writing programs at multiple institutions.
I hold a Ph.D. in English Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies from Illinois State University, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
When I’m not teaching or writing, I’m usually hiking, practicing yoga, or trying to keep up with my very social orange tabby.
